I have been a fan of the Dilbert cartoon strip since it began syndication in hundreds of American newspapers back in 1989. The strip is a sassy but candid look into the management and machinations inside the walls of corporate America.
Its lead character, Dilbert, is a hapless butt of management’s often inane and ill-fated decisions. Needless to say, the strip is wildly popular among those who toil in the corporate realm. Photocopies of the strip can be found on office bulletin boards everywhere.
Scott Adams created the satirical Dilbert comic strip after he left his corporate job because of what he said was “wokeism” and the discrimination that he experienced as a white male.
Alas, Dilbert was canceled Monday by hundreds of major American newspapers because Adams dared to speak his mind and make observations that the woke media hordes have determined are racist.
During his Feb. 22 podcast, “Real Coffee with Scott,” the satirist and political commentator said:
“Based on the current way things are going, the best advice I would give to white people is to get the hell away from black people, just get the fuck away.”
Adams, 65, made the comments in response to a Rasmussen poll, which asked 1,000 Americans whether they agree or disagree with the statement: “It’s OK to be white.”
Of the black Americans who responded, 26 percent said they didn’t think it was OK to be white, and 21 percent said they weren’t sure.
“Add them together and that’s 47 percent of black respondents [who] were not willing to say [it is] OK to be white,” Adams said of the poll results. “If nearly half of all blacks are not OK with white people—according to this poll, not according to me—according to this poll, that’s a hate group, and I don’t want to have anything to do with them.”
Like a lot of Americans, Adams said he has grown sick of the constant charges of “racism” that seem to infect every discussion, issue, or problem in America these days.
“There’s no fixing this,” Adams said. “This can’t be fixed. So I don’t think it makes any sense as a white citizen of America to try to help Black citizens anymore. It doesn’t make sense. There’s no longer a rational impulse. So I’m going to back off on being helpful to Black America because it doesn’t seem like it pays off.”
Over the weekend, Adams fanned the flames created on his podcast, tweeting: “Is it racist to avoid racists who are the same race as each other? Or is it only racist if the racists you are avoiding are white?”
It’s a good question. In today’s America, it appears that only those who are white can be racists. Never mind that racism and bigotry exist within every race, every culture, every religion, and every nation—and have since primitive hunter-gatherers formed communal societies thousands of years ago.
Adams just committed the unpardonable sin of pointing out that fact. Therefore, he must be canceled and his cartoon strip must be censored.
Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Germany’s notorious propagandist and chief news censor, would be proud of the way America’s news media have stifled Adams and blue-penciled Dilbert.
Jawohl, meine Damen und Herren!
Adams says he made his controversial comments with a purpose: “to widen this conversation. If you don’t know the purpose of it, it would look [racist] that way … the minimum is somebody needs to get into trouble by moving the envelope. Progress for improving the lives of black Americans has stalled.”
The media’s suppression of Adams and Dilbert is a distressing commentary on America today. Getting canceled for expressing an opinion that violates the tenets of political correctness is another example of how freedom of speech is under assault in our country.
You have the freedom to express your opinion only IF the woke mob agrees with what you say.
Elon Musk, a long-time fan of Dilbert, came to Adams’ defense over the weekend when he tweeted:
“What exactly are people complaining about?” Then, he added that the media themselves are racists:
“For a *very* long time, US media were racist against non-white people, now they’re racist against whites & Asians. The same thing happened with elite colleges & high schools in America. Maybe they should try not being racist themselves.”
None of Musk’s tweets nor Adams’ explanations will assuage the media doyens and doyennes who have unilaterally decided the American public will be better off not seeing Dilbert in their newspapers.
Censorship is their answer. Not widening the discussion of Adams’s comments and opinions—which, by the way, he does not embrace alone.
While newspapers were banning Dilbert from their pages, some blacks said they appreciated what Adams was trying to do.
“What you said took courage and as a black man, there was nothing racist about what you said,” tweeted black musician Jon Banks. “Nearly half of the black population unapologetically hates white people and I’ve known this for decades. Good on you for starting this important conversation. Even MLK told us to judge people by their character. By that logic, you’d be racist NOT to.”
However, the legacy media censors have spoken and Adams and Dilbert are doomed. They will only be seen in a handful of gutsy newspapers that decide to buck the dangerous and fanatical surge of corporate wokeness, political correctness, and censorship sweeping America today.
So, get ready, folks. The First Amendment has a huge target on its back.

Adam’s is right! No matter what the racial divide has been cultivated and reinforced by the Demoncrats. You can have “black” anything from television programs to entire months but NOTHING that recognizes white anything. Go figure. The American dream (and federal law) was to make America colorblind. The Demoncrats have made it the sole criteria.
It is discouraging when journalists, who depend on the First Amendment more than any other industry, have decided to violate the tenets of that critical right to cancel and censor those they don’t agree with. I never thought I would see the day when journalists turned into censors. Definitely, not MY JOURNALISM!
Good article,,honest, nuanced and clear instead of bowing to the screaming PC mob yelling at Adams (and Stanford speakers, etc.) I’ve listened to Scott’s off-beat brilliance daily for 5 years now and, as Dr Drew said, “he’s up to something” and not just running his mouth….
What he was up to was “shaking the box” or being a disruptor with the higher-ground purpose of sharing some tools to help individuals achieve personal success and thus get largely free from racism…. He clarified all this in his talk the day after with the smart interviewer Hotep Jesus: https://www.youtube.com/live/oeFA-n3SMRw?feature=share Now we have this smart article helping as well. Will check out your historical novels, and thank you!

Thanks for commenting, Rodger. The most disheartening thing about what happened to Adams has been the deafening silence coming from journalists in the legacy media. If this had happened a few decades ago, journalists everywhere would have decried such blatant censorship. When journalists embrace censorship, they are embracing their own demise. I hope you enjoy the trilogy if you have the opportunity to read it.
