For the past 13 years, Chicago has had the dubious distinction of being the murder capital of America.
And here are a few more ominous facts about “That Toddlin’ Town:”
- For seven consecutive years, Chicago has had the highest murder rate among U.S. cities with more than one million people.
- In 2024, Chicago’s murder rate per capita was three times higher than Los Angeles and nearly five times higher than New York City’s. That’s more than double the murder rate in Islamabad and nearly 15 times more than Delhi.
- Out of Chicago’s 147,899 reported crimes since January 1, arrests have been made in just 16.2% of them.
- More illegal guns are recovered in Chicago than in New York City and Los Angeles combined.
- The number of reported motor vehicle thefts last year was more than double the number in 2021.
Yet to hear communist Mayor Brandon Johnson and clueless Governor J.B. Pritzker tell it, Chicago is a crime-free paradise.

Neither Johnson, known locally as Mayor “Pin Head,” nor Pritzker, known in the Windy City as Governor “Two Ton,” seems to care about Chicago’s violent reputation.
But hundreds of thousands of Chicagoans living on the city’s crime-ridden South and West Sides do.
That may explain Johnson’s dismal 6% approval rating and the fact that Pritzker’s approval rating has nose-dived to 14.1%, according to 10 different polls.
While Mayor Pin Head and Gov. Two Ton have decided to ignore the violence infecting Chicago’s streets, their constituents have other ideas.
One idea resonating with Chicagoans is to ask President Trump to send in the National Guard in an effort to blunt the crime and violence, just like he did in Washington, D.C.

But neither Johnson nor Pritzker is having it. It’s a matter of optics. The last thing they want in a one-party city that Chicago has become is help from a Republican president—and not just any Republican president, but one named Donald J. Trump.
Both men are infected by Trump Derangement Syndrome—a noxious mental malady peculiar to Democrats, liberals, socialists, and communists.
To date, there is no cure for this psychosomatic ailment.
And that is upsetting to Chicagoans like Danielle Carter Walters, who has testified in Congress about rampant crime in Chicago.
“Gov. Pritzker doesn’t live or work where I live,” she said. “He doesn’t give a damn about how violent crime is impacting the city, about the children being killed every week, about the rapes, murders, thefts, car-jackings, and burglaries that are committed.
“The mayor is oblivious to it (crime) too,” she continued. “You will never see him or the governor walking in these high-crime neighborhoods unless they are surrounded by cops. We need President Trump’s help because Johnson and Pritzker don’t care.”
I began my career in journalism in Chicago—probably the toughest, most competitive newspaper town in America. I worked as a general assignment reporter for the Chicago Tribune for a few years before the Tribune sent me abroad as a foreign correspondent. During that time, I covered everything from crime and politics (an oxymoron?) to city and state government. Sadly, the Tribune today is but a diminishing shadow of what it was in the 1970s. But that’s a story for another time.
The Chicago I cut my journalistic teeth on was run by a hard-ass Irish mayor named Richard J. Daley.

Daley was a hard-core, uncompromising, and ruthless Democratic boss who ran Chicago the way Genghis Khan ran his army—with rigorous, unrelenting authority and discipline. Step out of line as an alderman, ward boss, or precinct captain, and you would be hauled over the coals, or worse, exiled from the machine.
Daley hated communists and socialists—the gang that has taken over today’s Democratic Party. He tolerated Republicans because, in the Chicago of the 1960s and 1970s, he sometimes needed their support. Daley was a political Svengali.
Most of all, Daley loved Chicago. It was HIS city, and by God, nobody was going to come into it and do it harm, commit unpunished criminal acts, or demean it in any way. He was so obsessed with keeping Chicago’s reputation spotless and ship-shape that he would not even allow movies to be shot in the city. And believe me, if there was ever a city that the big screen loves, it is Chicago.
That is NOT the Chicago we see today, and Johnson is damn sure no Mayor Daley.
Johnson is an avowed communist, though today he says he is a Democratic socialist, which is just a more palatable name for communist.
The Democratic machine that Boss Daley ran wouldn’t have allowed Johnson to get within 1000 feet of City Hall. And that goes for Two-Ton Pritzker, too.
Both of these alleged leaders are in power because the city’s legacy media supports and manipulates them like hand puppets. If Johnson and Pritzker say crime in Chicago is being exaggerated by Donald Trump, the media nod in complete agreement. It’s a cozy affiliation that is making Chicago almost unlivable.

Chicago’s newspapers and TV news programs apparently would rather watch crime escalate than see National Guard soldiers walking the streets of The Loop.
Why are Johnson and Pritzker so unyielding when it comes to Trump’s National Guard proposal?
The answer is simple. Power. They don’t want to yield any power to the dreaded orange man in Washington. They would rather see more dead on the streets of Chicago than lose their hold on power.
If Trump does follow through and send the National Guard to Chicago, the yelps and shrieks of fascism and dictatorship that will emanate from the City of Slumping Shoulders and its inflexibly entrenched political elite will be deafening.
But you know what? Just as in Washington, D.C., where President Trump sent the National Guard and other federal law enforcement officers, murders, carjackings, smash & grab thefts, rapes, and burglaries will end.
And Chicagoans like Danielle Carter Walters will not be afraid to leave their homes, go shopping, spend an evening in The Loop, or let their children play outside.
What a concept!
