America the Beautiful, America the Invaded

Last week, I posted a column discussing a new movement in the U.K. designed to “Restore Britain”—meaning to restore Great Britain’s traditions and values, which are under assault by a deluge of third-world migration, both legal and illegal.

The founder of that movement, a former Member of Parliament named Rupert Lowe, insists the U.K. is losing its culture and identity to a dog’s dinner of illiterate migrants, radical Islamists, and unskilled scroungers.

He isn’t wrong.

As I pointed out in my previous post, it’s the same story in the United States. As many as 15-20 million illiterate and unskilled migrants invaded our nation during the horrendous four years of the Biden administration. Hundreds of thousands—possibly millions—of them were violent criminals, slackers looking for a welfare check, or extremists here to set up terrorist cells.

So far, there is no “Restore America” movement in the United States. There is just a Republican administration doing its best against extreme odds to remove these parasites, thugs, and freeloaders from our midst via a mass deportation strategy that radical leftist judges, socialists, communists, and Democrats in Congress, and blue state governors and mayors constantly obstruct.

So far, perhaps 2.5 million of these intruders have been removed, either through self-deportation or with the assistance of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). But millions more remain in our country, committing crimes, perpetrating fraud, freeloading, and most concerning, doing their best to avoid assimilating while working to invalidate and countermand our culture, history, and lifestyle.

Particularly concerning are comments from Muslim and minority members of Congress, such as Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, who seems to have disdain or hatred for white men in America.

During an interview that resurfaced and went viral recently, Omar had this to say about white men and, by extension, the founders of our country.

“I would say our country should be more fearful of white men, because they are actually causing most of the deaths within this country,” Omar said during an interview with Al-Jazeera, the Islamic news organization. She went on to suggest that if fear were the driving force for safety policies, the U.S. “should be profiling, monitoring, and creating policies to fight the radicalization of white men.”

“be fearful of White Men,” says Ilhan Omar

Funny, she didn’t have anything to say about the 1,200 Americans who were murdered by illegal migrants (none of whom were white men) in Texas between 2013 and 2022, according to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Nor did she mention high-profile murders, such as Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student, who was killed in 2024 while jogging at the University of Georgia, or Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old girl in Houston, raped and killed the same year. Jose Antonio Ibarra, a Venezuelan national who entered the U.S. illegally, was sentenced to life in prison for Laken Riley’s murder, and two Venezuelan men who had been recently released by border officials were charged with Jocelyn Nungaray’s murder.

Omar is clearly unaware of “criminal noncitizen statistics” compiled by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). For Fiscal Year 2024, CBP recorded 17,048 arrests of illegal migrants for criminal activity, including 29 for homicide/manslaughter. In January of this year, the CBP reported 4 homicides committed by illegal migrants.

Once again, no white male perpetrators in those numbers. But, like most socialists, communists, and Democrats in Congress, Omar is only concerned about her Muslim and minority brethren while embracing a visceral loathing for men and possibly people of the white persuasion.

For Omar and fellow radical and racist Islamists like Democrat Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, the more illegal migration of minorities from third-world countries or failed socialist or communist nations, the better—as long, apparently, as they are not white.

Unlike the 12 million mostly white (gasp!) European immigrants who entered the United States through Ellis Island between 1892 and 1950 with the sole intention of escaping government oppression or lack of opportunity to become Americans, these new invaders do not want to assimilate. They are here to keep their languages and cultures while carving out foreign enclaves and communities in our cities.

Assimilation and integration into American society and culture are the furthest things from their minds.

For example, Somali and Muslim immigrants are highly concentrated in a few specific states and cities where they are striving to recreate their failed native societies and cultures in America while ripping off the country that is providing them shelter.

Minnesota is the undisputed home to the largest Somali population in the U.S. As of 2024–2025, estimates suggest nearly 80,000 to 100,000 people of Somali descent live in the state.

The twin cities of Minneapolis–St. Paul has the largest concentration, particularly in neighborhoods such as Cedar-Riverside (known as “Little Mogadishu”). Other hubs of Somali concentration are Columbus, Ohio, which has the second-largest Somali community, and Seattle, the third-largest hub in the SeaTac and Tukwila suburbs. San Diego, Los Angeles, Nashville, Tenn, and Lewiston, Maine, are also home to significant numbers of Somalis.

                                                   “Little Mogadishu” Minneapolis

Not surprisingly, each of these cities has experienced significant fraud in state-administered federally funded social service programs, including welfare, Medicaid, childcare and nutrition, healthcare, autism services, and housing stabilization services.

In Minnesota alone, federal authorities say that fraud could likely be as much as $19 billion across 14 programs—most of it attributable to the Somali community, who provide kickbacks to complicit state and city officials. Most concerning are allegations that some of the stolen funds were funneled to terrorist organizations such as al-Shabaab in Somalia.

But Minnesota’s unbridled fraud is likely to be dwarfed by California, where federal authorities estimate the theft of government and taxpayer funds by Somali’s and a horde of other offenders may well hit at least $200 billion.

None of this should be surprising when you consider the kind of country Somali migrants come from. After the fall of the Siad Barre dictatorship in 1991, the country descended into a civil war that lasted over 30 years. During this time, there were no courts, no police, and no banks. Fraud and theft were rampant, and today Somalia is ranked as one of the most fragile and corrupt states in the world. While the Somali government in Mogadishu has gained some ground, it still competes for power with regional states and the terrorist group al-Shabaab.

Because official systems are weak or nonexistent, corruption and nepotism often fill the void. When the Somali people cannot rely on the law for protection or resources, they often turn to “clannism,” in which public funds are stolen and diverted to one’s own group or clan.

Is it any wonder that the Somali communities in Minnesota and elsewhere are rife with fraud and theft? Somali immigrants come from a “stateless” society where they learned to survive through informal networks and a deep distrust of government institutions—institutions that, in their homeland, were often predatory or non-existent. By extension, stealing from the “state” in the minds of Somalis living in “Little Mogadishu’s” throughout the US is a means of survival and is perfectly acceptable behavior.

So far, Somali schemers have been charged with wire fraud, money laundering, and bribery. One of the more pervasive schemes was child nutrition fraud, aka the “Feeding Our Future” Case. This is considered the largest single pandemic-era fraud scheme in the U.S., involving at least $250 million. In the scheme, defendants allegedly used shell companies and fake distribution sites to claim reimbursements for millions of meals that were never served to children.

As of today, more than 50 individuals have pleaded guilty, and several others have been convicted at trial. Prosecutors presented evidence that stolen funds were used to purchase lavish homes, luxury cars, jewelry, and real estate in Kenya and Turkey.

That is one reason federal investigators are looking into how Omar has amassed a $30 million fortune, up from about $50,000 just two years ago, when her annual salary as a Congresswoman is $174,000.

I am not holding my breath regarding Omar’s sudden wealth. Unlike Republicans, dodgy Democrats always seem to get away with fraud, theft, and other forms of illicit behavior. I don’t know why or how they do it, but Democrats are as slippery as greased eels when it comes to crime and punishment.

While the Somali community has been busy ripping off America, the nation’s burgeoning Muslim community is continuing to take over entire cities or significant portions of them.

And like the mostly Muslim Somali communities, non-Somali Muslims do not appear eager to assimilate or immerse themselves in American life and culture.

Recent studies by the Pew Research Center and the Cato Institute reveal that the U.S. public is generally more skeptical of Muslim assimilation than Muslims are themselves, with about half of the American public believing that Muslims want to remain distinct, perhaps because they have established significant cultural and religious infrastructures in specific areas.

Part of that viewpoint is supported by what is going on in Dearborn, Michigan, which proportionally has the largest Muslim population in the U.S. (over 40% of residents) and the largest mosque in North America, the Islamic Center of America.

Islamic Center of America, Dearborn, Mich.

The Muslim community is deeply embedded in local government in Dearborn. For example, Mayor Abdullah Hammoud is the city’s first Arab American and Muslim mayor.

Dearborn is also home to a dense network of halal markets, schools, and businesses that primarily serve Muslim residents. The city is often a focal point of national debate. While some critics label it as having extremist or radical Islamic elements, local leaders argue the city is a prime example of the “American Dream,” where Muslim faith and American identity coexist.

Then, there is the “Big Apple.” NYC not only has the largest metropolitan Muslim population in America, with over 760,000 residents identifying as Muslim as of 2025, but it also has a Muslim mayor.

Zohran Mamdani became mayor of America’s largest city last November after running on a socialist/communist platform containing a litany of promises, including a pledge to freeze rents for the city’s one million rent-stabilized units and construct 200,000 new rent-stabilized, union-built homes over 10 years.

Mamdani also promised to provide free childcare for all children from six weeks to five years old, estimated to cost $6 billion annually, and he pledged to make all city buses fare-free and build new bus lanes to increase speed. Mamdani also proposed a pilot program of city-owned supermarkets to sell food at wholesale prices, operating without a profit motive, and he championed raising the city’s minimum wage to $30 an hour by 2030

The mayor-elect proposed paying for these initiatives by raising the corporate tax rate (from 7.25% to 11.5%) and increasing personal income taxes on the top 1% of earners—both moves that already have thousands of non-Muslim New Yorkers singing the blues.

However, the city’s Muslim population is less troubled by Mamdani’s agenda of communist collectivism and higher taxes. It is simply happy to have a fellow Muslim controlling the levers of power in the city they call home.

Large Muslim communities exist in Queens (Flushing), Brooklyn (Bay Ridge), and Manhattan (Lower East Side). The city’s Muslim community has members hailing from over 75 different nations.

Intriguingly, in New York City, the Muslim and Jewish populations are both significant, representing among the largest urban communities of their respective faiths in the world.

As of early 2026, the Jewish population was 960,000—about 12 percent of NYC’s population. By contrast, Muslims were about 760,000—about 9 percent of the city’s total population.

The two groups are not “physically separated” by any official or legal barriers, but like many ethnic and religious groups in NYC, they often cluster in specific neighborhoods that have become cultural and religious hubs.

Major Jewish areas are Brooklyn, the borough with the highest concentration. 1 in 4 residents is Jewish. Notable enclaves include Borough Park, Midwood, and Crown Heights (Orthodox and Hasidic centers), and Williamsburg (Satmar Hasidic community).

In Manhattan, significant Jewish populations are on the Upper West Side and Upper East Side, as well as Washington Heights. And in Queens areas like Forest Hills and Kew Gardens have large Jewish communities.

Queens is also home to nearly 40% of the city’s Muslims. Major enclaves include Flushing, Jackson Heights, and Astoria (“Little Egypt”). Brooklyn is the borough with the highest total number of Muslims. High concentrations are found in Bay Ridge (historically Arab-Muslim) and Brighton Beach/Bensonhurst. Bronx neighborhoods like Parkchester and Morris Park have seen significant growth in West African and Bengali Muslim populations.

While there are distinct religious enclaves that can feel separate to visitors, the Jewish and Muslim populations are fundamentally integrated into the city’s broader infrastructure, with over 285 mosques and hundreds of synagogues distributed across the same five boroughs.

Muslims are also centered in Chicago, a vast hub for South Asian (Pakistani/Indian) and Palestinian Muslim communities, particularly in suburbs like Bridgeview and Lombard. Houston & Dallas have rapidly growing Muslim populations supported by widespread Islamic schools and community centers, as does Northern Virginia, and areas like Falls Church and Alexandria, which both have a high density of Muslim residents, including a significant Somali community.

I grew up learning that America was a nation of immigrants, and clearly, looking across the American landscape today, that has not changed. In fact, it is even more of an immigrant country than it was when I was born back in the Pleistocene era.

At the risk of being repetitive, the key difference between today’s immigrants and yesterday’s is this:

Most of the immigrants who came to America between 1900 and 1950 did so legally. Nearly all steerage passengers underwent mandatory inspections during the Ellis Island era. Doctors looked for signs of contagious diseases like trachoma, tuberculosis, or scalp fungus and “mental deficiency.” If a person was found to be ill, they were either treated at the island’s hospital or deported at the steamship company’s expense. The focus was on preventing mass outbreaks in dense urban centers.

Immigrants undergoing health inspection, Ellis Island ca. 1910

Today, most migrants are entering America illegally. Because these individuals bypass official ports of entry, there is no initial health screening. This has led to public health concerns in “sanctuary cities” like New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago regarding the re-emergence of diseases like measles, polio, and tuberculosis within shelter systems. Screening typically only occurs if an individual is taken into CBP or ICE custody.

Between 1900 and 1950, federal law barred those “convicted of a felony or other infamous crime or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude.” This included polygamists, anarchists (after 1903), and those likely to become a public charge. Vetting was largely based on manifest lists provided by steamship companies and face-to-face interviews. Without digital global databases, inspectors relied heavily on the applicant’s testimony and physical appearance.

Today’s vetting for those in custody is far more technologically advanced. CBP uses biometrics (fingerprints and facial recognition) to check against international terror watchlists and U.S. criminal databases. The primary challenge today is the lack of criminal records from home countries (such as Venezuela and various African nations). If a migrant’s home country does not share its criminal database with the U.S., a person can have a violent criminal past in their home country but appear “clean” to U.S. border officials upon entry.

And, of course, for those millions who have entered the country illegally, there is no vetting at all if they are “gottaways,” or if they have managed to evade CBP and ICE agents.

Between 1900 and 1950, there was virtually no federal welfare state. Immigrants were expected to have a “sponsor” (often a family member or ethnic society) or a specific amount of cash to prove they wouldn’t become a burden on the state.

After serving with the U.S. Army in Germany, I got an overseas discharge so I could marry my wife, a German national. But before I could return with her to the US, my father had to promise to sponsor her so she would not be a financial encumbrance.

Today, the government provides significant resources to migrants—legal and illegal—such as housing, food, and legal services. This shift has changed the “vetting” focus from “can this person work?” to “how much will this person cost the taxpayer?”

So, while the technology for vetting is vastly superior today, the circumstances of illegal entry often make that technology irrelevant after a person has successfully entered the interior of the country and vanished, as millions already have.

And that’s when America the Beautiful becomes America the Invaded.
