There was predictable outrage among American lawmakers when the world learned that Vladimir Putin’s most significant political opponent died mysteriously in prison Friday.
Alexei Navalny’s death came just one month before a presidential election in which Putin will undoubtedly intensify his iron grip on Russia.
As disturbing as Navalny’s death was to those who support democracy and the free elections that are critical to that form of government, I couldn’t help but notice the conspicuous irony and hypocrisy of what is currently happening in our own country.
Donald Trump, Joe Biden’s most significant political opponent, is not yet in prison. Still, the president and his Democrat minions are doing their best to put him there before our own presidential election later this year.
So I ask you, are we any better than Russia? Isn’t Joe Biden doing exactly what Putin is doing to his political opponents?
Putin consistently condemns those who oppose him as traitors and extremists.
Sound familiar?
Think about the 74 million Americans who voted for Trump in 2020 and how Biden consistently and repeatedly condemns them as “dangerous MAGA extremists.”
Putin and his regime in the Kremlin have suppressed all political dissent in Russia, and Navalny’s suspicious death in Penal Colony No. 3 near the Arctic Circle ensures that Putin’s most powerful opposition leader has been eliminated.
So far, the Biden regime has stopped short of the brutal tactics that Putin used on Navalny.
For example, In August 2020, Navalny collapsed into a coma after suffering an attack with the deadly nerve agent Novichok. Navalny’s supporters insisted the attack was a state-sponsored attempt to kill him.
Incredibly, Navalny survived, and after receiving treatment in Germany, he returned to Russia in 2021. That, it turns out, was a fatal mistake. Immediately upon his arrival at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport, he was arrested and thrown in prison, where he remained until his suspicious death.
A bare-bones statement by the directorate of Russia’s federal penitentiary service said: “Alexei Navalny felt unwell after a walk, almost immediately losing consciousness, according to department representatives.”
And that was that. Will there be an autopsy? Will the truth of Navalny’s death be revealed? Don’t hold your breath.
Back in the good old USA, nothing would make Joe Biden and his Democrat handlers happier than to see Donald Trump imprisoned and incommunicado just like Navalny.
For that reason, the outrage I saw from Democrat lawmakers and our vice president upon hearing of Navalny’s death in prison was nothing short of dissonantly hypocritical.
“Whatever story they tell, let us be clear: Russia is responsible,” Kamala Harris droned at the Munich Security Conference. She added that Washington had yet to confirm the news of Navalny’s death, “but if it’s true, this would be a further sign of Putin’s brutality.”
Other Democrat lawmakers were also quick to condemn Putin.
“It confirms what we already knew about Vladimir Putin, that he is a murderer,” said Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), who leads the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s Europe panel. “He is committing crimes against humanity, and he clearly engineered the death of his most well-known opponent.”
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), also an SFRC member, said that “the great heroes of freedom and liberty never really die. They become martyrs and symbols that often become more powerful in death than in life. It’s likely that Putin and his stooges will rue the day they locked Navalny away to die.”
Perhaps Putin and his stooges will “rue the day,” but what about Joe Biden and his complicit cronies at the Department of Justice and the various Democrat blue state prosecutors?
Locking Trump away to die is clearly the motivation behind the four indictments and 91 counts that Joe Biden’s principal political opponent faces.
No matter what you think about Donald Trump—and I am aware that millions of Americans loathe him—the fact that a sitting president is trying to imprison his leading political opponent and thereby disenfranchise millions of voters who support him makes me question if we truly live in a viable democratic republic.
Please explain to me why what Vladimir Putin does with his political opponents (locking them away in prison) is any different from what Joe Biden is trying to do to Donald Trump.
You can argue that none of Putin’s political opponents—Navalny included—ever did anything wrong EXCEPT oppose Russia’s sitting dictator. Nevertheless, he calls them traitors and “enemies of the state.”
Now, consider Donald Trump. He has never been convicted of a federal crime. Yet, Joe Biden consistently refers to him as an insurrectionist, which is equivalent to calling him and his “Make America Great Again” supporters traitors.
And what does Biden want to do? He wants to lock Trump away, eliminate him from the presidential campaign, render him politically irrelevant, and thereby ensure that Democrats maintain control of the White House.
There is something wrong with this picture. It smacks of the old “rules for thee, but not for me” catchphrase.
Years ago, when I was covering a speech in Chicago by Democrat Senator and presidential candidate George McGovern, he said something I have never forgotten.
“I suppose politicians have always wanted to get re-elected, but there’s a feeling now that if you just discredit your opposition long enough and fiercely enough, it makes it easier for you to win. I don’t think that’s necessarily true.”
Words to consider, Mr. President.

Pretty much spot on! EVERYTHING the Demoncrats accuse conservatives of is exactly what they themselves are doing. So far Biden has not adopted the Clinton operational policy of anyone with dirt on them commiting “suicide” in physically impossible ways. But I wouldn’t put it past him. Biden still isn’t too worried since the Demoncrats still have what Biden touted during the last election as “the largest fraud organization ever assembled” in place.
The retort from Democrats will be that Trump is a rapist and fraud. Yet, the justice system in both cases was not just, You are correct. Dems are no better than Putin, but a Communist system is what Obama wants; he will use any means to get there.
